Q2: What led you to this career?

Posted on 03 March 2022

A question to always ask someone is how/why they got into the role they’re currently in. It’s always an interesting one to know the answer to. Was it a passion? Was it related to what they studied? Was it a childhood dream?

Now, it’s unlikely someone has dreamt of being a recruiter since they were young. It never goes: ‘astronaut, teacher, artist, vet – recruiter!’.

So, what inspired our consultants to get into this field of work?…

Brad…

“I wanted to find something and apply myself to it and I found this opportunity. I don’t think I would’ve got into recruitment if it wasn’t for this opportunity to be honest.

I just like the people, the company, and I could see that I could grow within the company and help them to grow at the same time. Grow as a person too I guess…

DS Group got me into recruitment.”

Oscar…

“I like the healthy competition. DS Group are good for personal development too.”

Ben…

“I left uni and the more I looked for a job in the industry I wanted to go into (studied) the less I liked the sound of it. I spoke to a family friend who used to work for a recruitment company and put me in touch with a Rec2Rec.

I ended up here and I’m loving it.”

Emily…

“In all honesty I never saw myself doing this. I went to uni and studied sport and thought I’d go into something sport related. But I think everything relates loosely…

I met someone who was in recruitment and instantly I was like *ears pricked* and found it really interesting. And now I can’t really see myself doing anything else at the moment.”

Eddie…

“I was looking for a career change. Everyone I spoke to said I should go into sales, ‘you can chat’ is what they said haha.

I really like the vibe, the pace of the job and chatting to loads of people every day.”

Darren…

“This role really stuck out to me because I’ve never done it before and I needed to be around people who would support me.

It’s also a really sociable role, not as ‘head down, number crunching’ as what I was initially going to get into which was Accounting and Finance.”

Loving these answers!

The consultants have pointed out what we already knew in that recruitment might not have been their obvious career choice. By the sounds of things, however, they’re all thoroughly enjoying their roles and it’s the company culture here at DS Group that really makes it!
