Q7: What’s the best advice you were ever given?

Posted on 07 April 2022

Welcome back to our Getting to Know Our Consultants Campaign!

Today’s question has got to be one of my personal favourites from the whole campaign as it offers a variety of inspirational pieces of advice. All of which we could reflect upon and see if they’re particularly relevant and/or helpful to our own lives.

So, here’s what the consultants had to say…

Brad…

“I’ve always had the motto ‘lions don’t lose sleep over the opinions of sheep’. That’s my favourite saying.

My downfall in the past is caring too much about what people think. But people are always going to have an opinion and you can’t let it phase you; move on and don’t let it influence your actions and decisions in life.”

Oscar…

“In year 10 my music teacher told me ‘it’s better to be liked by 5 people for who you actually are than by 100 for who you’re not’ and that’s always kind of stayed with me.”

Ben…

“It’s never too late to do the things you want to do. If you want to change your job you can do it. If you want to retrain you can do it…

Don’t let society hold you back from doing things that you want to do for yourself.”

Emily…

“It’s more something I live by: I always trust people until they give me a reason not to trust them. I like to see the best in people and don’t want to judge people off of a first impression.”

Eddie…

Try to learn something new every day, even if it's just a silly fact like snails have teeth on their tongue!

Darren…

“I’m not sure where it’s from but I remember it to this day and that’s ‘every single person that you encounter knows something that you don’t’. So often people discount others because they might not be in the same position as you or maybe look different to you. But if you realise that everyone around you can teach you something you will really start listening to people more.”

We hope you’ve enjoyed these wise words and we’ll see you next week for our 8th question!
