We’re looking for world-class research engineers to join our Applied Research team. A multi-disciplinary team of ML researchers and software engineers, working in close collaboration with product managers and external stakeholders to build products that deliver radical impact by applying the latest ML research to a variety of real world business challenges.

About Us

Based in the heart of London, we are representing an applied AI start-up with a difference. Privately funded by the backers of Arrival, they offer all the advantages of working for an early stage start-up, as well as the ability to focus on building high-quality, high-impact systems without being distracted by frequent fundraising.

Their mission is to build intelligence that delivers radical impact by applying the latest ML research to real business challenges. Many ML researchers are incentivized to focus exclusively on academic success metrics, and not enough businesses have the risk appetite to test applied ML. By assembling a team of world-class ML researchers and software engineers they believe they can bridge the gap between academic research and real world commercial challenges to deliver revolutionary production software with machine learning smarts! Their aim is to build a vertically integrated AI product stack, not just another AI layer on top of already existing products. Areas we’re currently focused on disrupting include e-commerce, supply chain and quality assurance. However, they won’t limit themselves to these areas and will investigate many industries which they believe can be made better with the use of AI.

Our values

  • Radical Impact: They focus on always having a positive impact in the real world.

  • Learning: They expect their algorithms to learn, and they should too; as an organisation, as employees, as a team, and as individuals.

  • Entrepreneurship: They are visionary, radical, passionate, unafraid to try hard things, and driven to make a difference in the world. Individuals are trusted to set direction in an unstructured environment.

  • Collaboration: Just like their algorithms, they will need to work together. It takes a village to make a real difference, and no one person has all the answers.

  • Kindness: The world needs more kindness. It needs more cross-culture empathy. They will strive to bring their best selves to any team and always assume others are doing the same.

The Role

In this role you will:

  • Explore the application of the latest machine learning techniques to real-world problems;

  • Translate real-world challenges into machine learning problems and explore the right method to find a solution;

  • Collaborate in multi-disciplinary teams to develop prototypes and products that can be evaluated in a real-world environment;

  • Research, apply and evaluate innovative methods and models against real-world challenges;

  • Recommend and explore new applications where they could have radical impact with machine learning

About you

Essential skills:

  • Masters degree (or equivalent knowledge and experience) in computer science, physics, maths

  • Demonstrable experience in applying machine learning to a real-world problem or dataset

  • Programming experience (including machine learning framework experience)

  • Strong mathematical ability

  • Passion for having a positive impact in the real-world using machine learning technology

Nice-to-have skills:

  • PhD or equivalent experience in a technical field

  • Postdoc or Industry experience considered for more senior positions

  • Experience putting machine learning models into production

  • Expertise in one or several areas of ML/AI

  • Relevant publications in ML / AI / computer science, including conferences (such as NeurIPS, ICML and ICLR), journals or workshops
